Questions anyone??

We thought it might be fun to gather a bunch of questions or whatever that anyone might have and send it to Elder Jolley to have him answer about his mission, Mongolia, the food, etc. Please post any questions or comments in the "comments" and we will put them together to send to him. Once we receive his answers back, we will post the questions and answers together for everyone to view!

PS: What tribe do these people get assigned to in their patriarchal blessings? Where do they think they come from?

PS - 2: Recipe: If you have a way of getting continuous heat, use a slow cooker or a pot that you can put meat in with about 3/8" of water and some onions, potatoes, & carrots. Let it cook at about 290 degrees for 5 hours or so. Easy cooking. (if you have a way of getting heat)

  2. Hey Ryan,

This is your mom"s cousin Jonathan Hogg. Here's a trivial question for you to research.

How many 12 appostle quorums can be on the earth at one point in time?

I thought of this question myself & challenged my dad who reasearched and found an answer. Good luck & let me know what your answer is.

  4. What is a major obstacle missionaries face in introducing the gospel to the Mongolian people (other than being able to communicate as well as you would like to in the language)?

  5. What is the most unusual story you have heard since you arrived in Mongolia?

Here is a recipe from Aunt Grace...

    Broccoli Rice Casserole:
    1 small onion (chopped)
    1/2 cup chopped celery
1 pkg (10 0nces) frozen chopped broccoli, thawed in the sun of the Gobi desert
    1 tablespoon butter or margarine
1 jar (8 ounces) process cheese
1 can (10=3/4) condensed cream of Mongolian mushroom soup, undiluted
1 can (5 ounces) evaporated milk
    3 cups cooked rice

In a large skillet over medium heat, saute onion, celery and broccoli in butter for 3-5 minutes. Stir in cheese, soup and milk until smooth. Please rice in a greased 8 in. square baking dish. Pour cheese mixture over; do not stir. Bake, uncovered, at 325 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until hot and bubly. Yield: 8-10 servings.

  6. Hey Ryan!! I hope your well in Mongolia!! I don't really have a "real" question so I will just ask............how is the Mongolian Beef in Mongolia ;)

    Cheese Sauce:
    2 TB Butter
    2 TB Flour
Whisk over heat until pasty :)
Add in milk and whisk. Add in a couple handfuls of cheese. There you go- easy mac and cheese- Easy Scalloped Potatoes. I have even layered hamburger- sliced potatoes and cheese sauce for a casserole.

    Easy Fried Rice:
Cook a lot of rice and stick in fridge- it has to be cool or it gets mushy.
Fry the rice in some oil or butter for a few minutes and then set aside. Scramble some eggs and set aside. Cook ANY kind of veggies in some oil and set aside. Cook some ham or bacon or have it meatless like we have to. Add it all back into the pan. In another bowl mix about 1/2- 3/4 cup of soy sauce- minced garlic and ginger and a splash of something acidic like Vinegar or Lemon juice. I also add some crushed red pepper for heat. Pour over rice and veggies and saute it all until done.

    Good Luck!
    Jen

  7. Hey Ryan!

It's your long lost Aunt Kelly. We love you and pray for you. I have been trying to think of some great questions, but not sure what great is...so here it goes.
    1. Are the grocery stores the same there as they are in the states?
    2. How much is a gallon or pint of milk? How much is a loaf of bread?
    3. What kind of cars do they drive? Make and models?
    4. Do they have a McDonald's there? Have you eaten it? If so, is it good and is it priced the same.
    5. Do they have any American stores there? Example...Target, Walmart, 7 Eleven?

There was an awesome talk on Saturday morning from Jeffery Holland. I thought a lot about you. You are an amazing example to us and especially to my boys. They want to grow-up to be like you. I can only hope. I will send recipes soon...I am not a fantastic cook and only like to make things that take 30 min. or less.

    Luv ya!
    Kelly

  8. Hi Ryan!

Sorry I haven't had a chance to come on here and post comments. How are you doing over there? Every time I think of Mongolia (and I never went to geography.. so excuse me if I'm on the wrong continent) I think of that movie "The Golden Child" where they go to Tibet. After the old man picks his nose, Eddie Murphy says "don't cut yourself". That was a classic, I hope you know the movie. Anyway, is it going to get that cold there?? I hope you get to wear YAK fur or whatever is warm!

Easy recipe, I was reading where I think your mom said you have mostly potatos, veggies, rice, etc. Can you get your hands on any soups? Cream of chicken, cream of mushroom, cream of anything would work.

The easiest recipe I could think for you to throw together are tin foil dinners! Do you have access to a fire? Or an oven will work. No microwave, sorry.

Just chop up all of the potatoes and veggies that you have. It doesn't really matter what you use, whatever you have will do. Then, if you have some butter, add that but if you don't, as long as you have some soup you'll be set. Toss a can or two of soup around the cut up stuff. Salt and pepper. Then dump onto tin foil, fold several times and then chuck in the oven or fire. I'm sure you've made these camping. But, my little twist, and what makes them extra tasty is the soup. Maybe this is old news to you. But just in case, try it.

Was that a Yert? Yurt? I'm not sure of the spelling, but in one of your pics there is a round white building, and I just wondered if that is what it was.

Anyway, I hope this finds you well. I miss you. I hope these years go by fast for all of us and that soon you'll be home safe.

    Love you!!

    Jaime
